Initial services included space programming and site selection for a new Business and Innovation Center in the mid-atlantic region for one of the world’s leading specialty chemical companies. The results identified a 1980’s era 95,000 SF building that was suitable for extensive reconstruction to serve the functions of both efficient business administration and numerous types of research and application laboratories.
The interior was completely demolished down to exterior walls and basic structural elements. The new design creates modern environments that encourage impromptu, creative interactions among chemist, scientist, application and marketing specialist to improve existing and develop new products.
One concern was the limited about of natural light provided by the narrow, strip windows of the original building design. The design approach included demolishing large portions of exterior walls in select areas to provide new glass from floor to ceiling. The entry lobby was completely redesigned to implement elements of corporate branding and all new finishes.
Additionally, an outdoor work and break environment was created to take advantage of adjacent wooded areas.
