This new 115,000 SF project features comprehensive wellness, fitness and recreation facilities for the student body and university staff. Located on the edge of campus next to the Student Center and directly accessed from the main pedestrian mall, one of the primary objectives for the design was to create a dynamic, vibrant environment to encourage active life styles and to establish a unique identity on the primarily brick, traditional campus.
One of the initial design goals called for extensive natural light and visual transparency during both day and night. The traditionally detailed brick and stone base of the structure responds to campus architecture, while also supporting an entirely glass upper structure that clearly expresses the uniquely sloping indoor walking/running track.
